Alan H. Morris

 

                                       Alan H. Morris was appointed o the
                                        Atlanta Citizen Review Board by the
                                        League of Women Voters of
                                        Atlanta-Fulton County April 30, 2009
                                        for a three-year term.The City
                                        Council confirmed his appointment
                                        July 30, 2009.

Mr. Morris is a native Atlantan and graduate of Avondale High School (1966).He attended Oxford College of Emory University earning an associate degree in psychology.He continued his education at Georgia State University earning abachelor of arts degree in psychology and two master's degrees—one in Rehabilitation Counseling and another in Public Administration.

In 1972, he began his professional career as a Counselor/Director with the Division of Rehabilitation Services, Georgia Department of Human Resources, managing a halfway house for mentally ill men.A few years later, he became a unit manager supervising professional rehabilitation counselors.In 1985, Mr. Morris was promoted to Assistant District Director.In this position he managed human resource development activities for the West Metro District of Vocational Rehabilitation serving 200 plus staff/management.He also served on the Statewide Human Resource Development Committee and provided team building training throughout the state of Georgia.In March, 1991 Alan became the District Director managing the Vocational Rehabilitation Program for Fulton, Cobb and Douglas Counties.

Mr. Morris became the Vocational Rehabilitation Legislative Liaison in 1996.He reviewed and advised the Division of Rehabilitation Services and the Department of Human Resources on all legislative issues involving people with disabilities.In May, 2000, Alan returned to rehabilitation management.His last position was as Vocational Rehabilitation Field Services Director.He retired in 2005 with 34 years of service to the State of Georgia.

During Mr. Morris' distinguished career in the field of rehabilitation, he received many awards and recognition including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Rehabilitation Association.A highlight of his career occurred in 1990 when he was invited to the White House to witness the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.Since retirement Alan serves as a volunteer tour guide at the Historic Oakland Cemetery and an AARP Tax Counselor.He is the owner and sole proprietor of the Al Morris Tax Service with thirty-five years experience preparing personal income taxes.

Mr. Morris is married to Nancy Glover and lives in the Morningside neighborhood.They have two grown children, Carrie and Clark.
