Charis L. Johnson, Secretary
Charis L. Johnson was appointed to the Atlanta Citizen Review Board by the Gate City Bar Association in 2007 for a two (2) year term. On February 11, 2010, Ms. Johnson was elected Board Secretary.
Charis L. Johnson has been practicing law for over 20 years. She currently serves in the position of Counsel with Ronnie Moore & Associates, Staff Counsel for Allstate and Encompass Insurance Companies in Atlanta. She has worked with the firm for eleven years. As counsel with Ronnie Moore & Associates, Ms. Johnson is responsible for defending personal injury and property damage cases in a 14-county Metropolitan Atlanta area. While most cases involve soft tissue claims, some of them entail complex injuries.
Before Ronnie Moore & Associates, Ms. Johnson worked briefly in private practice and handled a variety of legal matters, including landlord and tenant, personal injury, workers’ compensation, contract dispute, and family law matters. Prior to that, Ms. Johnson worked for the Housing Authority of the City of Atlanta, which at that time was the fifth largest public housing authority in the nation. While at the Housing Authority, Ms. Johnson headed the dispossessory unit, provided advice and counsel to both the Housing and Section 8 Departments, defended all of the workers’ compensation cases for the Authority, and provided training to the public housing managers.
Ms. Johnson is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Sociology. She attended Howard University Law School, in Washington, D.C., where she received a Juris Doctorate Degree.
Ms. Johnson is active in many local voluntary bar associations. In 1998, she was President of the Gate City Bar Association, National Bar Association (NBA) local affiliate chapter. She has been a member of the NBA for over 16 years, and served a Region XI Director for Alabama, Georgia, and Florida in 2002 and 2005. In 2007, Ms. Johnson served as co-chair of the local planning committee that hosted the 82nd Annual National Bar Association Convention in Atlanta this summer. Ms. Johnson also is member of the following bar associations and organizations: State Bar of Georgia, the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, and Georgia Association of the Black Women Lawyers.
She currently is the President of the League of Women Voters Atlanta-Fulton County; Member-Atlanta Citizens Review Panel; and, Member- Atlanta Judicial Commission.
Ms. Johnson formerly served on the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections Vote Review Panel, State Bar of Georgia Long Range Planning Committee, and Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation Saturday Lawyer Program.
Ms. Johnson is a native of Atlanta where she still resides. |
