Roderick E. Edmond, M.D.

Rod Edmond, a native of Atlanta, Ga., is a founding and managing partner of the law firm Edmond & Lindsay LLP. He concentrates his legal practice in the area of plaintiffs' wrongful death and catastrophic personal injury — namely medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, product liability and other cases involving catastrophic injuries.

Dr. Edmond received a B.S. with honors in biology in 1983 from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He received his medical degree from Duke University (Durham, N.C.) in 1987 and did post-graduate training in general surgery at Beaumont Army Medical Center in EI Paso, Texas. He served five years as a physician and a Captain in the United States Army. Dr. Edmond served as the Brigade Surgeon for the 3rd Brigade, the 2nd Infantry Division on the demilitarized zone in the Republic of Korea. During his last three years on active duty he served as a staff physician at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

While practicing medicine at the Pentagon, Dr. Edmond attended law school at night and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1993 from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After law school, Dr. Edmond spent a number of years practicing in managed care medicine and operating JurisMed, a medical-legal consulting company. Dr. Edmond was the medical director for four years at a large metropolitan Atlanta jail.

Dr. Edmond practiced for two years with the firm of famed attorney Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. While with The Cochran Firm, Dr. Edmond successfully litigated a number of multi-million dollar personal injury cases. He resolved the civil suit for the widow of the D.C. postal worker who died from an anthrax infection that was acquired through the Brentwood Postal Office. He received one of the largest settlements for medical negligence in the history of a South Carolina county for a suit involving a young lady who died from the delayed diagnosis of a rare heart condition. Dr. Edmond also won one of the largest jury verdicts in the state of North Carolina for a non-death nursing home negligence suit.

Rod opened his own law firm in early 2003. Six months after opening his doors, he settled a multimillion-dollar suit against a company for distributing defective biomedical material to a patient. He successfully litigated dozens of various personal injury and civil suits. Currently, Dr. Edmond represents a number of victims and widows from the Imperial Sugar refinery that exploded in Savannah, Ga. in February 2008. He is also pursuing a multi-million dollar suit against private defense contractors in federal court in D.C. on behalf of widows and victims of torture at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. His firm is currently moving dozens of civil suits in numerous courts throughout the nation. Rod has two mottos for life: I) "Do good and do well." And, 2) "Sometimes "I'm sorry" isn't enough."

Dr. Edmond has published articles in medical journals and is an active speaker on the subjects of medical and medical-legal issues. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, The American Bar Association, The National Bar Association, The American Association for Justice (trial lawyers), Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and a number of other professional organizations.

Rod is committed to public service. He has contributed to numerous initiatives in the community such as political campaigns, mentoring programs for underprivileged youth, etc. He currently is a member of the Atlanta Citizen Review Board, a police and corrections oversight board. The board was formed in the wake of Atlanta police falsifying a "no-knock' search warrant, killing a 92-year-old woman, then handcuffing her and planting drugs in her home in an attempt to cover-up the crime. Dr. Edmond was elected and served as Chair of the Board from February 2009 to February 2010.   Rod is the head coach of a seven and eight year old basketball team at the East Lake YMCA and is a coach for a seven and eight year old baseball team at Gresham Park in Atlanta. He is a member of Cascade United Methodist Church. He is married to Brooke Jackson Edmond and is the proud father of two sons and three daughters.
